Odsaz • Software Engineer • 1998 – 1999
Odsaz was a small but ambitious startup in Turkey with a rich history of innovation. Despite limited resources, the company achieved remarkable technical feats thanks to its legendary developer, Ramazan. A self-taught programmer, Ramazan was known for his brilliance and tenacity, earning admission to one of Turkey's most prestigious computer engineering programs despite his demanding work schedule. However, after clashing with professors, he left, convinced they didn’t understand real-world development.
The company faced financial difficulties during my tenure, which resulted in me leaving the company after seven months, but gained invaluable insights into both technical and business challenges.
ATM Network Router Development (pSOS Drivers): Worked on a project in partnership with Integrated Systems in San Diego to build pSOS drivers for an ATM Network router. Inherited and built upon Ramazan's emulation layer, which replicated pSOS thread behavior in DOS using C. Began porting the emulation layer to Linux using POSIX threads for improved compatibility and scalability. Though the contract was canceled before completion, this project provided valuable experience with low-level operating system concepts and threading models.
ERP System Modernization: Played a pivotal role in modernizing the company’s COBOL-based ERP system by developing a new version using Delphi and Interbase. Improved the design and functionality of the international general ledger module. Successfully completed the accounting module and made significant progress on other ERP components, enhancing usability and performance for clients.
